I'm really fond of this part of the year, as the pressure is off and you can concentrate on a small number of tasks instead of a long list of crops all competing for your attention.
Root crops such as carrots, beetroot, potatoes and turnips are known for having good storage potential, lasting for weeks or months after harvesting. However, they can still spoil if stored the wrong way.
A haul of freshly harvested garlic is a beautiful thing, especially when the outer papery sheath is removed to reveal a pristine white or pink ribbed bulb on the inside.
